Frequently asked questions

Yes. Voyager is designed for offline use. All log entries are saved locally on your device and automatically synced to the cloud when you regain connectivity. You can create log entries, browse your voyages, and add notes without any connection.
Each log entry supports GPS position (auto-filled from your device), course, speed, heading, distance, wind speed and direction, air and water temperature, visibility, cloud cover, barometric pressure, sail configuration, engine hours, fuel level, oil status, and free-form notes. Only timestamp and event type are required — everything else is optional.
Yes. You can add friends to your account and assign them as crew members on individual voyages with roles like Skipper, Navigator, or Crew. Each member can view the voyage details and log entries.
Voyager is currently available on iOS. Android support is planned for a future release.
You can export any voyage's data directly from the voyage detail screen using the export function. This includes all log entries, crew information, and voyage metadata in a shareable format.

Privacy policy
Your privacy matters. Here's how we handle your data.
1. Data controller
The data controller responsible for your personal data is Voyager ("we", "us"). For questions regarding data processing, contact us at privacy@voyagerlogs.com.
2. Data we collect
When you use Voyager, we collect and store the following information:
- Account data: Your name, email address, date of birth, and gender — provided during registration and profile setup.
- Voyage data: Voyage names, dates, descriptions, countries, boat assignments, and crew lists that you create within the app.
- Log entry data: Nautical log information including GPS coordinates, course, speed, wind, weather, sail configuration, engine status, and notes that you manually record.
- Photos: Images you choose to upload and attach to your voyages.
- Device location: GPS coordinates are only accessed when you explicitly use the location auto-fill feature for log entries. We do not track your location in the background.
3. Legal basis for processing
We process your personal data under the following legal bases as defined by the GDPR (Art. 6):
- Contract performance (Art. 6(1)(b)): Processing necessary to provide the Voyager service you signed up for — storing voyages, log entries, and syncing data.
- Consent (Art. 6(1)(a)): For optional features such as accessing your device location or camera. You can withdraw consent at any time through your device settings.
- Legitimate interest (Art. 6(1)(f)): For improving app functionality and ensuring security.
4. How we use your data
Your data is used exclusively to provide and improve the Voyager app experience:
- To store and display your voyages, log entries, and sailing history.
- To sync your data across devices when you are online.
- To enable crew collaboration — sharing voyage data with crew members you add.
- To generate your personal dashboard statistics (total voyages, nautical miles, etc.).
We do not sell, rent, or share your personal data with third parties for marketing or advertising purposes. We do not use your data for profiling or automated decision-making.
5. Data storage and security
Your data is securely stored using Supabase, a hosted backend service with row-level security, encrypted connections (TLS), and secure authentication. Supabase infrastructure is hosted in the EU. Passwords are never stored in plaintext. Local data on your device is stored in the app's sandboxed storage.
6. Data retention and deletion
We retain your data for as long as your account is active. You can delete your account and all associated data at any time from the Settings screen within the app. Upon deletion, all your personal data — including your profile, voyages, log entries, and uploaded photos — will be permanently removed from our servers within 30 days.

As a user in the European Union, you have the following rights regarding your personal data:
- Right of access (Art. 15): Request a copy of your personal data.
